Producer/director Al Gonzalez invites you to enter the fascinating world
of mariachi music. The inspiration for the documentary hit Gonzalez three years ago as he left
a mariachi festival that he had attended with his mother and father, who
are retired mariachis. Having lived with mariachis all his life,
Gonzalez was uniquely familiar with the music.
Gonzalez traveled extensively with writer Cate Rachford to gather information and conduct interviews with many of the “Who’s Who” in mariachi music. You will learn surprising information about the origin of the music and of the word ‘mariachi.’ The mariachi outfits called trajes, the lyrics of the songs, the types of songs mariachis play and sing, and the reasons why there has been an explosion of festivals in this country are just some of the topics covered in the documentary.
And, of course, you’ll hear plenty of mariachi music!
